HOW TO RE-GROW FOODS
The term RE-GROW is fast becoming any Do It Yourself enthusiasts, new “buzz” word. I was curious as to how one can grow foods from kitchen scraps. Recently I saw a FACEBOOK post but really didn’t pay much attention…till today.
WHY GROW YOUR OWN FOOD?
Food is expensive. And, if you are like me I find myself throwing out way to much unused leftovers and produce. So I thought back to the old FACEBOOK post and decided to do some online research. Low and behold there is a lot of information as to how you can actually do this in the comfort of your own kitchen.
LETTUCE, CELERY, BOKCHOY AND MORE!
I found this great website https://www.diyncrafts.com/4732/repurpose/25-foods-can-re-grow-kitchen-scraps. As you know many of our fruits and produce come with seeds or nuts as is in the case of an avocado. These seeds can be dried, potted and within weeks they will sprout…we have natural resources within our foods. I remember when I was a child I thought I could grow a pineapple from the cut off top of a pineapple. I eagerly tried but grew weary after a few days because I didn’t have the patience to wait for the magic to happen.
WHY NOT TRY HERBS?
There is nothing better than home grown herbs. In fact, many chefs have restaurant gardens and window herbs to pick daily to garnish their dishes and add that punch of flavor we all love. Impress your family’s taste buds by growing your own. Many of us have the materials to get started right at our finger tips! I love this website for some easy do it yourself instructions https://www.cnet.com/how-to/5-easy-steps-to-growing-fresh-herbs-at-home-while-youre-in-quarantine/
LETS GET “COOKING”
Now that you have a good start and some good instructions…enjoy flavorful home grown goodness and give those kitchen scraps new life.
